DigiSMART is a new generation application that changes the philosophy of maintenance from reactive to proactive and will allow airlines to transition from a corrective approach to a fully pre-emptive type of maintenance. It will also have a dramatic impact on the efficiency of front line operations by suggesting the appropriate corrective actions to correct service squawks before and after landing. DigiSMART is not a ‘replacement’ but rather an enhancement to either a DigiMAINT or WinPMI operating M&E environment. The goals of DigiSMART are as follows:
- Improving the efficiency of non-routine maintenance
- Reduce the number of maintenance-related delays and cancellations
- Use proven model based diagnostic technology to improve maintenance efficiency
- Reduce the number of repeat faults
- Reduce the number of No Fault Found (NFF) removals
- Reduce stocked inventory levels
- Allow maintenance personnel to reduce maintenance backlog and support a larger number of aircraft.

- Integrate airborne avionics (FMS) with Maintenance
DigiSMART is a Decision Support System aiming to streamline line maintenance troubleshooting process, which includes:
- Real-time monitoring
- Automatic data analysis of digital and manual reports
- Integration with SGML / XML Documentation management system
- Symptom / Case Inference Engine troubleshooting
- Managing and controlling the trouble-shooting activities through PMI or DigiMaint
DigiSMART will offer immediate value even to operator lacking onboard ACARS / CMS capabilities. It will offer a more precise troubleshooting by combining the manufacturer’s FIM/FRM with an inference engine that sifts through and analyses past corrective actions performed by the mechanics. In other words, it integrates maintenance history, technical documents and real life tribal knowledge to create links between the symptoms and the real causes.
